Madonna Music Monday - 04/30/2012

As a follow-up to last week's blog, I want to feature the 2nd Madonna song to be featured in the film Vision Quest. GAMBLER is one of Madonna's 'rock' songs. It has a great drum beat to it, similar to Burning Up, a song from Madonna's debut album, but a bit faster in tempo. Madonna has only performed this song once in concert, during her 1985 Virgin Tour. I wish she would perform this song more often, maybe as a medley with Burning Up. Who knows, maybe Madonna will perform it on her up-coming MDNA Tour. Fingers crossed. For now, here is Madonna with a song that 'has a good beat and you can dance to it'. Enjoy!

Madonna Music Monday - 04/23/2012

For today's selection, I wanted to share the 1st Madonna song to appear in a film. In 1984, Madonna was hired to record two songs for the 1985 film VISION QUEST. The 1st song from the film is a beautiful ballad. It's actually Madonna's 1st ballad hit. With this song, she proved she was not some 'dance-pop queen'. The song proved that she could sing adult-contemporary songs. The song was also nominated for a Grammy award. So here is Madonna singing a beautiful song about the Power of Love. Enjoy!!

Madonna Musica Martes - 04/17/2012

Today I wanted to share a song that doesn't get the respect it deserves. Released as the second single from the Like A Virgin album, MATERIAL GIRL was a song that became a misunderstood anthem. While people use the term 'Material Girl' to mean someone who loves material things, the song is actually meant to spoof wealth and those who have it. Madonna wants love in a relationship, not wealth.

Over the years, Madonna has only performed this song on four of her tours. The best version, in my opinion, is the version from her Blond Ambition Tour. Five years after the release of the song, Madonna knew that people were taking the song way too serious. She wanted to remind people that the song was meant to be a parody of 'material love'. This performance features Madonna spoofing her Mid Western heritage, among other things. This performance is taken from the final night of the Blond Ambition Tour in 1990. It features the now-classic lyric change where Madonna says 'Bitch' instead of 'Rich'. So here is Madonna & company singing about material obsession, Material Girl. Enjoy!

Trip Report - Walt Disney World - 07/21/11 - Part Two

So after an afternoon swim and a quick nap, it was time to head back to Epcot for dinner and more. We have 6:30pm reservations for the new restaurant located in the Mexico Pavilion, La Hacienda de San Angel. The restaurant is located along the World Showcase Lagoon, but is completely indoors. Because of the heat during the day, and because I had not eaten at this location, I was afraid that the restaurant was open-air. Lucky, I confirmed with WDW Dining that it is an enclosed eatery and that there will be air-conditioning, Good for the heat, bad for my cold. For a detailed review of our dining, you can check out my 11/05/2011 blog.

After we were done with dinner, I realized it was already 7:30pm. Where did the time go? After dinner we run over to Test Track to use the Fast Passes we had gotten earlier in the day. It's gonna be interesting to see how Fast Pass will work now that Disney is telling Cast Members to enforce the return times of the Fast Passes. So we get into the Fast Pass line and wait about 10 minutes before getting onto the ride. I love Test Track. It will be cool to see what the new make-over will look like when Test Track re-opens later this Fall. Plus I can't wait to try the Car's Land version at California Adventure. Maybe later this year. But for now, here is video of my nephew and I on Test Track:

The main thing we wanted to do at Epcot was to do some shopping at the Japan Pavilion. My nephew loves anything from Japan: toys, cartoons & games. So we rushed over to the Mitsukoshi Department store to see what my nephew wanted to buy. Well let me tell you. If it has anything to do with Mario Brothers, he HAS to buy it. So after looking at everything in the store, my nephew had made his purchases.

Every time I head to Epcot and shop at Mitsukoshi's, I tell myself to buy the glow-in-the-dark Godzilla t-shirt. But I never do. Here is a pic of that shirt. I think its really cool looking. Plus I LOVE that its glow in the dark:

After shopping in Japan, we head towards Mouse Gears. There are some specific Mouse Ears I want to buy. As we walk along World Showcase Lagoon, Illuminations is in full-swing. I wished we had gotten out of dinner a bit earlier so that we could have watched the fireworks. But I think my nephew would not like Illuminations as much as he did Fantasmic and Wishes.

So we finally get to Mouse Ears before the mad rush enters the store. During the week I saw some really cool Mouse Ears on various park guests. So I have to find them and buy them. Basically they are Mouse Ears themed after the various country pavilions in World Showcase. So I'm looking for the Mexico and Italy Mouse Ears. So we head to the Ears section of Mouse Gears and find them. I have my name stitched on the Mexico Ears. They look so cool.

I also come across the 40th Anniversary Magic Kingdom Ears. They are so cool. They are so nice, I'd hate to wear them anywhere.

After finishing my shopping, it was time to leave Epcot and head back to Pop Century. My nephew and I got onto a shuttle bus real fast as the crowds started to head of the park. In a short time, we were back at the resort. We got some snacks and headed back to our room for some much needed rest. The next day will be our last day of our trip.  I could already feel the depression. Or is that my cold acting up again? Oh well. See you on my next trip report!!

Madonna Music Monday - 04/09/2012

I'm taking a break this week from Madonna's new album, MDNA. I have been listening to it non-stop since I bought the album. The album has affected me in a very personal way. There are some very personal feelings that are being shared on this album that I can relate to at this time in my life. But for now I need a break from the musical self-analysis. Today I just wanted to share a great Madonna song. And there is no song that defines Madonna like the song LIKE A VIRGIN. The song, when released in 1984, pretty much made Madonna an International Star. So here is a recent live performance of this classic song. Here is the live version taken from Madonna's 2006 CONFESSIONS TOUR. Enjoy!

Mulan - Reflection - Extended Version

So I was browsing thru YOU TUBE, looking at various videos when I can upon this clip. I've always loved this song. It has wonderful lyrics, it's very emotional and its sung beautifully by Lea Salonga. I know that Christina Aguilera sings the 'pop' version of this song, but at the time she was too young to understand the lyrics. Plus, the lyrics are very different than the version used in the movie. However, this extended version, with the original lyrics is the version I love. I hope someday Disney will update MULAN with this full version with new animation. But until then, you can imagine what it would have looked like with this clip. This clip includes rough story-board animation for the extended portion of the song. So here is the extended version of Reflection as performed by the amazing Lea Salonga. Enjoy!!!

Madonna Music Monday - 04/02/2012

As the world knows by now, Madonna released her twelfth studio album last week. It is set to chart at #1 in over 40 countries. Last week also saw the release of Madonna's latest single, Girl Gone Wild. It's another dance floor classic as only Madonna can produce. It has a sound similar to Celebration, the song released with Madonna's greatest hits album of the same name. So here is the official video for Madonna's dance-floor hit, Girl Gone Wild. Enjoy!
